Is It True Honor?
I believe there are two kinds of people that show courage and bravery.
One kind has a true ability to calmly act inspire of fear, adversity, and pain. This ability comes from a deep-seated belief that there is a god at work in the universe. Or if not a belief in a god, they have at least seen His works, and gained a concept of the power of fate, destiny, and a law of goodness at work in the universe. They therefore do not fear a negative outcome, and they are free to work through any situation.
The other kind admires the first, and merely imitates them. These people must be truly ignorant as well. If they were not ignorant, they would have either observed the extremely cruel and nearly meaningless nature of existence, or they would have observed the work of God and therefore would belong to the first group. If they observed the universe as meaningless and cruel, they would have weighed the options, and they would have considered comfort more important than honor.
What meaning does honor have without a concept of God or at least of His good work throughout the universe?
