What is a Manly Man? (women welcome)
As I was driving home from Denver on a Tuesday night with my iPod on shuffle one of my favorite artists came on. A poet. Yes, I enjoy listening to a poet. Not jut any poet though. Bradley Hathaway is one of the most genuine and honest poets I’ve heard. Listening to him made me think of one of the lessons I taught at youth group probably 2 years ago. It was about being a manly man.
What I bring to you is the question: What is a manly man?
Is it having power?
Is it hitting the most home runs, making the most tackles, blocking the most shots?
Is it having a championship ring on each finger?
Is it making a 6 or even 7 figure salary?
Is it the biggest garage, the most tools, the fastest car?
Is it having a sweet beard?
Just some thoughts that come to my mind when I think of being manly.
But what do YOU think is a manly man? Really…comment on this post, let me know what you think and all I ask is that you come along on a journey to find out what a manly man is. I’ll read your comments and post another blog with more thoughts. This is the first blog in a series of at least 3 blogs, I may write more.
So come along side and we’ll take a look at manhood!

listening to dashboard confessional and natasha bedingfield.
watching reruns of the oc on the soap net.
hanging out in my snuggie.

To me, a manly man is someone who works hard every day to fullfill their dreams and be the best person they can be: weather it’s helping your son get another Boy Scout Merit Badge or simply by recycling a plastic bottle, there are many ways to be a manly man.

A manly man:
Has gentle strength
Protects his castle
Isn’t intimidated by fear or doubt – he does what he’s gotta do
Leads
Is his own man
Commits his heart
Opens his heart

is a helper for the helpless, and advocate for his family, leads humbly, loves zealously, and is true to himself – screw societal expectations and worldly worth – manly men are so much more than that!

Doing the right thing even when it is really hard, perhaps causes you more work, stress, or other aggravation. Because the right thing is the right thing.

Quiet, unwavering confidence – a manly man’s eyes say everything is alright. You’re with me!

when i think of manly, i think of my dad because he is probably one of the manliest men i know. he can fix things like fences and kitchen sinks, build things with his garage full of tools, and he rides a motorcycle (tough
). he knows all about home renovations, and works hard everyday to put food on the table.
to me, taking care of your woman, family, and home are the manliest things you can do.
